about

: grapplings with, and tangents from, the irony and problematicness of whiteness in rap.

I wrote these songs from 2017-2019, refocusing myself as a solo artist and endeavoring to write an album that directly addressed and reflected the inherent contradictions and issues of a white man making hip-hop. I am, for better or worse, far too abstract in the head to have actualized that project in the way I intended, but I did make a handful of songs en route that sit somewhat in that space of reflection. Together, those songs are Reflections in the Key of Milk, which progresses from me playing with rap recreationally, to focusing those energies into relevant discussion, to turning that discussion inward. In the simplest sense, this is a representation of the knowledge that, as a white man rapping, I need to be on my p's & q's, to be humble, and to give more than I receive. Please enjoy it, too, as a work of magical realism, as a piece of my love letter to the loop, and as a pure expression of selfhood. Thank you for listening and go support BIPOC artists monetarily please.
